Frequently Asked Questions
Vertical printing is a UV-cured, direct-to-surface printing process that allows us to print high-resolution graphics directly onto walls and other vertical surfaces. Unlike vinyl or wallpaper, the image becomes part of the surface itself, creating a seamless, professional finish with no seams, peeling, or bubbling.
We can print on most vertical surfaces, including painted drywall, concrete, brick, metal, wood, shiplap, glass, plexiglass, and even pre-existing imagery. If we can safely position the printer vertically, we can usually print on it. Each surface is evaluated in advance to ensure proper results.
No. We can print on virtually any wall or surface color. White walls are ideal for maximum color vibrancy, but we can either use the existing wall color as part of the design or apply a layer of white ink during printing to maintain color accuracy. This allows us to print on light, dark, or even patterned surfaces.
Our printing system is extremely flexible.
• Maximum print height: Up to approximately 13 feet, adjustable in small increments depending on ceiling height and site conditions
• Minimum ceiling height required: About 5 ft 6 in
• Print width: Virtually unlimited
Large feature walls, long corridors, and multi-wall designs are all possible.
Due to the nature of robotic wall printing and inkjet technology, we cannot guarantee full edge-to-edge or corner-to-corner coverage.
Typical margin guidelines:
• Vertical margins generally begin about 13 inches from the floor and end about 13 inches from the ceiling (or the maximum tower height)
• Horizontal margins usually require about 20 inches from inside corners when printing wall-to-wall
• In open areas or when printing near only one wall, margins can be as small as 0-3 inches
We account for these margins during design to ensure the finished piece looks intentional and polished.
Every wall is unique. Depending on the space, we can:
• Design around obstacles
• Temporarily remove outlets or switches (with power safely shut off)
• Coordinate with your building or maintenance team for removal and reinstallation
If obstacles cannot be safely removed, we adjust the design or layout to work around them.
The process is fast and efficient. Many projects are completed in a single day.
• Printer setup typically takes about an hour
• Printing time averages 1–3 hours per 50 square feet, depending on the design
We plan installations to minimize disruption to your space.
We use specially formulated, low-odor wall printing UV inks. These inks cure instantly under UV light, allowing us to print without special ventilation or after-hours access. Odor is minimal and typically unnoticeable.
Immediately. Once the print head passes, the ink is fully cured, dry to the touch, and ready for use.
Yes. Exterior printing is possible. For outdoor applications, we recommend applying a UV-protective clear coat, which also helps with graffiti resistance and easier cleaning.
Yes. Prints can be:
• Painted over on drywall
• Removed from glass with a scraper or razor
• Sanded or blasted from wood, metal, or concrete surfaces
We’re also happy to help repaint or reprint the space with a new design when you’re ready for a refresh.
Artwork can come from several sources:
• Client-provided files
• Custom designs created by our team
• Licensed stock imagery
• Collaborations with artists or photographers (with proper licensing)
We ensure all artwork is legally cleared and optimized for large-scale printing.
Pricing is typically based on square footage, surface type, and the scope of work.
Printing: The complexity or color of the artwork does not affect printing cost. Simple graphics and highly detailed photographic images are priced the same when it comes to printing.
Design: If you choose to use our graphic design services, design pricing can vary based on the complexity, level of customization, and time involved. Clients who provide print-ready artwork avoid design costs altogether.
Any required surface preparation or optional services are reviewed and quoted upfront so there are no surprises.
Upright Images is based in New Hampshire and proudly serves clients throughout New England, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
For larger projects or specialized installations, we’re happy to discuss travel outside the region on a case-by-case basis. If you’re unsure whether your location is within our service area, just ask, we’re always open to the conversation.
Yes. Our prints are extremely damage resistant.
Unlike vinyl, which is a layer of plastic adhered to the wall that can peel, bubble, or lift when nicked or damaged, our UV ink is cured directly onto the surface itself. This means there is no film layer to separate from the wall. No peeling, warping, or bubbling.
Normal wear, small nicks, or surface imperfections do not degrade the overall quality of the print. If the wall itself is damaged, that damage may transfer visually to the printed area, but it will not compromise the integrity of the surrounding print or cause failure elsewhere on the wall.
